The Anishinabek Education System (AES) has developed a comprehensive Language Strategy to support the revitalization and preservation of Anishinaabemowin and Lunaapeew.
The strategy is designed to increase the use and presence of Anishinaabemowin and Lunaapeew within schools, homes, families, and communities. It also addresses the need for community engagement, teacher support, curriculum development, and enhanced language-learning opportunities throughout the K–12 education system.

Community Engagement
The Anokijiig team, part of the Kinoomaadziwin Education Body (KEB), conducted extensive engagement with Participating First Nations to help inform the development of the draft strategy.
This engagement included:
- Community consultations
- Surveys
- Feedback from Participating First Nations
- Discussions surrounding language needs, priorities, and opportunities
Long-Term Vision
The Language Strategy is intended to provide a comprehensive and action-oriented approach to language revitalization over the next 10 years.
A key component of the strategy is engaging learners in the digital world while strengthening opportunities to learn, speak, and use Anishinaabemowin and Lunaapeew throughout the AES.
