Virtual Secondary School
The Virtual Secondary School provides flexible, culturally grounded high school programming that is available to all students within Ontario. Through online classes, independent learning, and ongoing support from certified teachers, students can work towards achieving credits to further support them receiving their Ontario Secondary School Diploma.
Courses offered through the Virtual Secondary School include Indigenous language learning and foundational secondary subjects. These courses are designed to support academic achievement while strengthening cultural identity, language revitalization, and learner confidence. Students are encouraged to progress at a pace that works for them, with learning opportunities that reflect Anishinaabe ways of knowing and real-world relevance.

ABOUT OUR COURSES
LNOAO — Level A Ojibwe
This course will allow students with no prior language experience to develop an appreciation for Ojibwe language and culture, to explore and experience a unique worldview, and to learn to speak the Ojibwe language. Students will learn common greetings and daily routines, become familiar with the writing and sound system, and practise basic vocabulary and phrases. Students will also use information technology during course-related activities.
LNOBO — Level B Ojibwe
This course will enable students to experience the unique respect for life that permeates Native languages and cultures. Students will expand their vocabulary and knowledge of phrases and expressions, using them in simple dialogues, narrative writing, grammatical constructions, and reading, and exchange information electronically.
LNOCO — Level C Ojibwe
This course provides students with an opportunity to expand their knowledge of a Native language and of Native philosophy, spirituality, and values, while enhancing identity and self-worth. Students will communicate using a variety of phrases and expressions, create short conversations, skits, stories, and narratives, use information technology, and develop an awareness of the structural and functional workings of a Native language.
LNDAO — Level A Lunaapeew
This course will allow students with no prior Lunaapeew language experience to develop an appreciation for Lunaapeew language and culture, explore a unique worldview, and learn to speak the Lunaapeew language. Students will learn common greetings and daily routines, become familiar with the writing and sound system, practise basic vocabulary and phrases, and use information technology during course-related activities.

MTH1W — Grade 9 De-streamed Mathematics
This course enables students to consolidate and further develop their understanding of mathematical concepts related to number sense and operations, algebra, measurement, geometry, data, probability, and financial literacy. Students will use mathematical processes, modelling, and coding to apply their learning to culturally responsive and relevant real-world situations while strengthening mathematical reasoning skills.

It helps students strengthen their understanding of mathematical concepts while allowing educators to monitor progress and tailor instruction to individual learning needs.

IXL Math is an online learning platform that supports students in building math skills through personalized, curriculum-aligned practice. With adaptive questions and immediate feedback, IXL helps students strengthen understanding at their own pace while allowing educators to track progress and identify areas for additional support.

What is E-Learning?
- Uses a D2L Brightspace to access lessons, assignments, and resources
- Allows students to learn asynchronously, meaning they can work on their own schedule within set timelines
- Includes interaction with teachers and classmates through online discussions, messaging, and virtual activities
- May require in-person attendance for exams or to access school-based supports such as technology, guidance, or well-being services
